Is it just me or has Mike Cruz really blown up in the last year? He's everywhere - every time I get a promo or a CD in the mail, his name is attatched to it! With the high volume of totally tribal anthems he's produced, it was only a matter of time before this man saw a mixed CD set of his own. Comprising almost entirely of his own material, this is the hottest DJ CD around right now!
Becoming more and more standard, Cruz's compilation is a two-CD set; the first being his own productions and vocal remixes; the second more underground and afterhours. It's no surprise that my favorite of the two is the second - seems I'm a lot more strict with my vocals than with my beats. The first CD is good and has some killer cuts from Deepa Soul, Joi Cardwell, and Jason Walker, along with a new mix by Tony Moran of their legendary hit "Movin Up." But Disc Two is really where the money is at and the first two tracks hit the nail right on the head. "The Only One" by Shawnee Taylor and DJ Tomer's latest tune, "And Now You Left Me." The second disc sounds much, much more like a DJ set at an actual club rather than a mixed CD sold at the stores.
I wish Mike Cruz the best in all his future endeavors. If he continues to produce hits, then we'll keep on churning out the money for them! Great work, man!
