Morgan Page grew up in Vermont, and rather than going out he stayed inside and produced music. At the age of twelve he was composing music, three years later his work starting to get airtime on some of Burlington's College radio shows. Morgan started to fill in as a DJ for a friend at the University of Vermont and was soon awarded his own weekly spot. Tech House soon became an obsession and a way of life for Morgan, so he began to work for Plastic City in New York. While spending his summers interning for Rick Salzer, he was introduced to the world of the music industry.
Armed with an Akai MPC2000 and a few borrowed synthesizers he produced Maple Grooves EP. Salzer signed Morgan's Maple Grooves EP onto his Fiji imprint. Five years have gone and we know Morgan from such tracks as "All I know," "Touch Tone," and his remixes of Terry Lee Brown's "Dub To Dawn." Now we find Morgan Page with his latest project. "I am so sick and tired of the shit on the radio and on the MTV I want something more" blares out just after I insert Morgan Page's "Cease and Desist." The first ever white label CD compilation, Morgan Page remixes nine tracks.
The first track on the disc is Coldplay's "White Shadow." The track sets the mood for the disc as it rides along very smoothly. Morgan's mix just sets such a nice calming mood. Track two is "Walking with a Ghost," remixed flawlessly by Morgan as a teasing vocal weaves in and out of the track. With a summer feel and a nice warm approach this was one on my favorite tracks on the CD. Imogen Heap's track "Hide & Seek" adds a softer side of things. Track five brings us to Sam Phillips' "If I Could Write." A simple guitar lick and some tasty percussion brings you closer to a more simpler time.
Moving along to track six finds us with the Kills' "The Good Ones." The track is bottom heavy with a lot of moving elements. This is a solid remix from Morgan. "Tijuana For Dummies" is a percussion-fueled 5 ½ minute track that could work for the dance floor. Keeping things minimal in the vocal department, Morgan does a nice job of adding some drums to the CD. Mr. David Bowie gets a bootleg remix done by Mr. Page on track eight. A nice breakbeat remix to clean the palate, Morgan does a outstanding task by keeping the track simple and clean. Large buzzing synths and a bubbling bassline make this my second favorite track on Morgan Page's "Cease and Desist."
Track nine contains the "Symphony #9" track by Antoine Dvorak. A nice chillout track, complete with some moving bass lines, soft drums and a funky percussion kit. The last cut of the disc is Wax poetic featuring Norah Jones. "Angels" offers the dance floor a nice slice of vocal love. With just the right amount of elements in the track, this will be at home in my bag for the more vocal nights.
