Axel Hirn and Flo Fleischmann create a surprisingly unique and creative sound with their third album under the Noiseshaper moniker. "Rough Out There" is an intriguing fusion of reggae, electronica, and dub flavors that is sure to please a wide variety of listening tastes. Although the reggae is easily distinguishable as the largest influence on the album, the electronic elements are finely crafted to fit perfectly in sync- creating a polished, crisp sound on every track.

The title track "Rough Out There" is perhaps the finest example of Noiseshaper's sound. The soft melody is exceptionally paired with pleasant lyrics and a decidedly catchy chorus. The biggest feature on this disc is the remake of "Kung Fu Fighting" which actually features the song's creator Carl Douglas and is easily one of the best versions of the song ever made.

Although the first few tracks are emphatically reggae-based tracks such as "This Is Not A Gunthing" and "Automatic," the artist slowly transfuses more electronica elements as the album progresses. In fact, on "Perdido" there are relatively little reggae elements on a fantastic track which incorporates a stunning guitar riff that will relax even the most harrowed listener. Expect more great things from this hip and gifted group, but in the meantime pick up this inventive album and enjoy this uplifting and rejuvenating listen.
