Circuit-friendly Norty Cotto releases 7 remixes of "I'll Be Your Freak" on
Definitive Records. Vocalist Sinsation gives a soulful female diva
performance, while Cotto gives this house track a hard bounce and
tight synth work. The vocals are pretty minimal, focusing on the line I'll
be your freak. It goes: "Open up your soul / I'll be your freak babe / I'll
be your freak tonight / Only I can make it right". The Original Freakin club
mix is a hard vocal house track. The JJ Flores/Steve Smooth remix keeps it
hard, and brings a bouncy 70s bassline into the mix. Benji Candelario's mix
is the most laid back and groovy of them all, having a retro Chicago house
appeal. Next is a radio edit of the JJ Flores/Steve Smooth mix.
The serious energy begins with the bonus dubs. The "This Freakin' Dub" mix
is the hardest of all the remixes. The bassline energy is brought up and
some soaring synths give it the big room feel. Vocals are there, but are
chopped up and used minimally.
Very effective, and my favorite mix. The
"Muthafreakin Mix" is vocal yet dubby, sounding similar to Peter Rauhofer's
style. Finally, the "Freaks Reprise" is a drum-appella; chanting the vocals
to a stripped down drum line. This mix could be a very effective way to
create some drama in a DJ set. Overall a solid set of remixes that stay true
to Norty Cotto's high rep. You get hard vocal tracks, groovy tracks, one
high octane dub and a neat DJ tool to boot. A very fun single.
