Gotta Love Those Italians
Italian dance music always tends to have some class to it. The Oral Tunerz (who are they? I don't know) employ the distinctive and fun vocals of Naan, who you may remember from some of the best tracks off of the Benassi Bros' Phobia album.
The original version of this song is so bouncy and adorable. The beat is simple, the synths are fun, but the downbeat at the beginning of some phrases sometimes disappears in favor of other sounds. Thomas Rich takes "Till You Drop" into the realm of dirty, chunky electro, a little funky and pretty fun. Naan's vocals become distant, ethereal, and distorted in Monoloop's minimal mix, an afterhours groove that doesn't necessarily need lyrics. Favretto and Battini give the track and laid back progressive house groove a la Deadmau5 and his contemporaries. It's a good mix but the vocals don't necessarily "sync up" with this mix, as Naan really staccatoes her voice with tight punctuation while the mix is drawn out, as mixes in this style tend to be. Finally we come to the D-Bag remix, which is a dub. It sounds like the soundtrack to an eerie Romanian circus. I have no other means by which to explain the mix than the thought of creepy people in creepy makeup doing circus things.
Summary
This track should go places, but it probably won't. The original is my favorite, followed by D-Bag's remix. Definitely worth checking out.Released February 2009 on Off Limits Records.
