Re:Jazz - Re:Mix

"Jazz not jazz" is the phrase that the original producers of "Re:jazz" use to define their sound. The original [re:jazz] album was released almost a year ago. The project's aim was to recreate past dance songs on the INFRACom! label into pure jazz music. The re:mix edition puts the production back into the hands of DJs to remix the jazz remixes. What ensues is a beautiful compilation featuring top nu-jazz DJs like Nicola Conte, Jazztronik, Yukihiro Fukutomi, and Les Gammas delivering some of the best work of their careers. The original compilation was produced in INFRAom's hometown of Frankfurt, Germany. The remixers hail from all parts of the world but are able to prove that jazz is truly universal. The compilation, although unmixed, flows well and manages to avoid the dullness which plagues many compilations that try to crunch as many songs as possible into one CD. Standout remixes come from Dublex Inc. and Les Gammes, who push past that smooth jazz sound and create impressive jazz dance classics that use vocals and piano in perfect harmony with thick beats to force moving hip-bones among all those lucky enough to hear this compilation.

Although the current community supporting jazz dance music is surprisingly small, "re:jazz" should help to attract both jazz and house music enthusiasts. Whether lounging on the beach or dancing in the club, this compilation is able to help all those in the need of something new and refreshing this summer, this is the sound of the summer.
