Techno maestro and bearer of all things forward-thinking, Richie Hawtin drops a truly impressive CD/ DVD set of future music and visuals. While the truest representation of this project will be obtained by listening to the full 95 minute mix on the DVD, for the purpose of this review we will focus on the CD. Made up of hundreds of samples, loops and musical bits from artists like Carl Craig, Speedy J, Ricardo Villalobos and Hawtin himself (to name a few), this is a composition that is twisted, tweaked and mixed in Ableton Live and takes you on a shockingly cohesive journey that is a total and utter whirlwind. Trippy and melodic, minimal and driving and everything in between, this is what technology sounds like.
