Seemingly drawing inspiration from the mash-ups currently so popular in the UK Electro scene, "S.O.S." relies on a sizable chunk lifted from the Soft Cell interpretation of "Tainted Love" as the backbeat for this track. Remix- wise, Chris Cox's Club Mix adds his trademark Tribal drum rhythms to the proceedings as well as some fluttering synth lines shooting high over the top and creates a mix that's pleasing enough in its way but pales dramatically when compared to the Nevins Electrotek Club Mix which perfectly extends the already marvelous original version of "S.O.S." into a peak-hour stomper with beats crashing down, keyboards incessantly bleeping, and Rihanna's infectiously buoyant vocals interwoven throughout.
Fantastic work and if "S.O.S." is any indication of what we can expect from Rihanna's forthcoming sophomore album, we should all be in for a real treat.
