Kicking things off are rolling drums slammed into a gorgeous, airy synthline in 68 Beats' "One Eye Shut." Rivera wastes no time providing the excellent beats, because next up is a track from one of the hottest duos in dance music right now, DJ Rooster & Sammy Peralta. This is the first of four offerings we are served by this production team. "Shake It" is a commanding, electro-driven track with a spoken male vocal telling you to "shake it, pump it, move it, do it." This is just the kind of track to suck you into the audio vortex of Rivera's juicy beats. On "This is Not Rock & Roll" by Snack, Rivera changes things up with a dance-rock track that bridges the two genres with heavy drums and an electric guitar sound.
"The Hum Melody 2005" starts disc two off on the right beat, with it a trancier take on the original version created by Robbie Rivera a few years back. Another mix of "One Eye Shut" is featured, this time with Superchumbo taking a stab. This mix is deep and sexy with Superchumbo's stuttering beats moving perfectly with the cut-up vocals. Disc two reaches its climax during the Oscar G Mix of Rivera's "Insanity." This trippy spoken vocal track, along with the warped steady beat, delivers exactly what the title describes, insanity. The insanity continues with a the twisted Kings of Tribal track, appropriately titled "The Piano."
This compilation is a great introduction to the nasty beat-driven world of Robbie Rivera and his juicy sound. Although, there aren't many vocals to satisfy the anthem-driven listener, the energy and freshness of Rivera's juicy beats will more than satisfy you.
