Rudenko - Everybody

Ministry of Sound - US

After "Summerfish" Comes "Everybody"

After his massive radio hit, "Summerfish,, (Leonid) Rudenko returns with "Everybody." Ministry of Sound America brings this fantastic song to the US market, but to what reception? In a post "Let Me Think About It" dance world, it really is possible to tackle the American club with an infectious and energetic track. There is a whole world of dance music outside of the American Standard (circuit), and maybe Ms. Corr blazed the trail to liven up the club. I believe "Everybody" could be the next track in this Manifest Destiny.

An Eastern Feel For "Everybody"

The song itself features a very Eastern feel. It makes me think of the video to Basement Jaxx's "Romeo." The groove is comprised of a standard 4/4, but also Eastern-themed percussion to provide an anti-beat, and hand claps. Those hand claps always seem to pull me in. The silk-voiced female single lets us know that "Everybody's doing it; You can feel it in the air." There is a male voice as well, whispering comments that mirror the words sung by the female. The video parades around sexy women in camo gear "torturing" a super-sexy male prisoner with... dancing. Hot bodies. Sweat. Cleavage. He doesn't really respond, even when they rip his shirt off, until the coy blonde at the end brandishes a whip. Rudenko's original version deftly impresses that this video is very appropriate. And I tend to agree. It is down and dirty and gritty and very much like being "tortured" by dirty, sweaty, sexy women dancing in camo clothes.

"Everybody" Gets Remixed

Morjac (boy, where have *they* been?) drain the track of it's original identity and energy and infuses a happy bouncy house feel with those heavy piano keys they are so adept with and a plucky, bouncy beat. They even changed the pitch of the singer's voice, I guess to make it less dark and sexy and more... bouncy. Morjac's mix is European dance compilation ready!

The next mix off of MOS America's single release of this track is done by Dabruck & Klein, and if possible, they have made it darker and dirtier than Rudenko could have imagined. It feels like a parade of flashing lights in a large and dark warehouse party, bass synths chugging along through the chopped vocals and heavy tech-y beats. This mix is a heavier take meant for a heavier crowd, and shouldn't be overlooked simply because of the dubby approach.

And everyone take cover, Don Diablo is on the track! This man is making a name for some pretty out there mixes, and "Everybody" was not safe from his touch. His mix is clicky and deep, with some weird 80s funk thrown in for good effect. I almost feel like Prince is going to start singing along! Don Diablo also turned in a far dubbier track than Dabruck & Klein, mainly relying on the grunts and groans of the vocalist to pass the time. His mix is solid, but perhaps too out there for this listener.

Summary

I really do feel like this track could dominate clubs, perhaps not as thoroughly as Ida Corr, but there is a kindred track here, just waiting to be unleashed on hungry clubgoers. And with the variety of mixes, there is surely something for..."Everybody".

Released February 2009 on Ministry of Sound - US.
