Sonique's single "Alive," like "Can't Make Up My Mind," was released late last year. But unlike "Can't Make Up My Mind," "Alive" has received very little attention comparatively speaking. In fact, you will probably have a much easier time tracking down a copy of this single than "Can't Make Up Mind." Trust me when I say the reason is not because of quality, since there is plenty to be had on both releases. The issue is solely exposure in this reviewer's humble opinion. Since most people have yet to hear one cut off this single, they are more hesitant to buy it. And at the current price of import singles, who can blame them. Nevertheless this one deserves your attention.
After all, the remixes on this single are a little faster and more playable at your local dance club than most of the remixes on "Can't Make Up Your Mind" - especially the Yomanda Remix edit. The lyrics are also just as soulful and meaningful as they are on "Can't Make Up My Mind." They are telling a story of the transformation that has been occurring in Sonique's life. Even the cover art is showing this compared to cover art on the singles from "Hear My Cry" (not to mention the cover on said album). Sonique is an extremely beautiful woman and they are now using this beauty to help move a product. The question is and always has been, is what's in the package worth it? Yes. In fact, all of her singles have been worth it thus far, even her weakest single - "I Put A Spell On You." You only run into some trouble when it comes to her albums, but such matters are best left to another review.
