Then I got the special treat of asking Toddy herself to chime in and she said, "Damir & Jonathan have always been supportive of my writing, as well as my performances on their music. They always easily integrate my ideas into their music making me feel like a true collaborator. It's funny to be around them as they work, because they work together like an old Jewish couple . They argue, but there's always the sense that they respect each other's differences. They've grown, since I've known them, into a finely tuned creative machine. Their ideas are always fresh & the sounds are always exquisite. The lyrics & melody from the song "Darling" on SLS 2 are mine from my song "Too Good." The song means something concretely sad to me as it was, but when Jonathan & Damir tweaked it into their sound, it was revived and came to have a completely different feel & meaning for me a happy one! Their music has good vibes because they are made of good vibes.. long live Paul & Price."
Cuts five through seven showcase P & P's magical advertising-friendly theme instrumentals. There are two that I recommend: track four "Unspoken" which, for us DJs can be mixed seamlessly with a track from Jewel's 0204 named "Stand", and track eight "Get On Steppe" with its deep reggae bass tones and Caribbean guitar licks. It is very summertime, which will warm you even when the Earth tilts away from it in your hemisphere. Next, track nine, "Guitars and Cigars," can't help but remind you of the intro to Bread's "Make it With You," especially if you are over a certain age, you'll notice the key similarity. "Summer Serenade" is the tenth and last track.
So finally, I asked my favorite query of all who bless me with the cooperation of communication, could they think of any funny or amusing vignette that happened during the production and/or creation of this album that our readers might find interesting or be able to relate to? To which they generously replied, "Well, the opening track, "I Adore You" has a bit of an interesting story behind it and it's a telling document behind music production in the 21st century. The track was actually written for a very cool commercial for Nike that ran during the Olympic games in Athens. We were fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Angela McCluskey, the supremely talented vocalist probably best known for her work with TelepopMusic and the song "Breathe."
After leaving us with positive of seeing them in-person in the near-future, I "adore" this CD and no midsummer's evening, winding-down after work or play with or without a Cabernet, should be without it; I'll even year-round-it and embrace with five sexy stars.
