Stevie Jewel - One Last Kiss

Bella Records

Not many artists seem to know who their fanbase is when they are first attempting to get their music out to the masses. Newcomer Stevie Jewel knows exactly which side her bread is buttered on and "One Last Kiss" proves that is spades. She has enlisted every top mixer of the moment to give her debut single the remix treatment including Josh Harris, Tracy Young, the Perry Twins, and Junior Vasquez. Overall, she seems to have hit a home run and looks to be very determined to be the top new diva on the block.

Josh Harris is up first with his Vocal Club Mix. Mixing together elements of both filtered house and electro, Josh makes his remix stand out with stabs of synthesizers that combine effortlessly with the pounding beat. This is a standard Josh Harris mix, but luckily his "standard" is very very good. Tracy Young brings her "A" game with a Big Room Vocal Club Mix that is on par with all the big name artists she has done mixes for. Booming drums and a throbbing bass line make this version jump with big room excitement. Stevie's vocals never get lost under all the heavy beats, which is always a good thing.

Considered by many to be one of the top remixers of all time, Junior Vasquez lends a hand with his Dreamliner Club Mix. This mix is interesting to say the least. Even though it has tribal drums and a chugging rhythm track, it feels rather disjointed and not very danceable. Maybe after being in the game this long, you don't question technique, but Junior's version just doesn't do it for me. Getting us back on track is Solar City with their Club Anthem mix. Heavy on the synthesizers and light on bass, this mix is okay but Stevie's vocals tend to get drowned out by the loudness of the synths. I would have liked fewer keys here and maybe some drums. I get what I want with Dena Cucci's Club Mix. All the instruments are in perfect control here allowing Stevie to shine through. This mix has a darker feel that the rest and makes it a good selection for after hours dancing. Lastly, the Perry Twins, who are currently having success with their own debut single "Activate My Body," deliver their 2 For 1 Mix. Unfortunately, the magic they have with their own song didn't transfer over to this remix. It's very monotonous and also heavy on the synths, but is thankfully the shortest mix here. It's kind of disappointing especially since I really like "Activate My Body." Better luck next time boys.

Stevie Jewel truly sparkles on her debut single "One Last Kiss." Though a couple of mixes miss the mark, the ones that are on point really do her voice justice. Josh Harris and Tracy Young are the standouts here. Be on the lookout for her debut CD sometime next year and until then, enjoy this new diva on the dance scene. This song has definitely sealed the deal for me.

Overall Rating:
