Sven Vath - Sounds of the Fifth Season

About.com Rating four out of Five

From Paul Dailey, for About.com

German techno veteran Sven Väth is back with the fifth installment of his annual retrospective. Coming off his most successful summer yet, this version of the Sounds of the Season series is a CD/DVD set which recalls in music and video the mayhem of his weekly Cocoon Nights at Amnesia in Ibiza. The CD features the eclectic, minimal, electro-tinged side of Sven’s musical tastes and brings us 12 tracks of tripped out, stripped down bliss. From the dentist drill inspired “Geht’s Noch?” by Roman Flugel, to the rock infused “Chemical Sweet Girl” by Black Strobe and the 80 electro influenced “Father” by Anthony Rother; this set is very eclectic and VERY Sven Väth. The DVD features shorts that detail a live set in 5.1 surround sound, an interview with Mr. Väth and a retrospective of the first 5 years at Amnesia. Fans of harder techno beats may be disappointed, but as a collection as diverse and wildly creative music, Cocoon and Sven never disappoint.
