Swing Out Sister - Where Our Love Grows

Shanachie
What a fabulous comeback... Now of course Swing Out Sister (perhaps best remembered for their 1987 pop hit “Breakout”) didn’t really go away, they’ve kept releasing albums internationally, but “Where Our Love Grows” marks their first return to American soil in many years. Swinging with standout Lounge tracks, the whole “Where Our Love Grows” just oozes with sophisticated style.

Whether in the form of exuberantly buoyant tracks like “Love Won’t Let You Down” and “Let The Stars Shine” or the gently shuffling “Where Our Love Grows” and “Happy Ending,” this CD showcases some of the finest recent examples of downtempo dance music and slows down even further when unleashing gorgeous ballads like “When The Laughter Is Over” and “From My Window.”

Though lead singer Corinne Drewery’s creamy vocals are the highlight of most of the songs, the album also features sunny samba-flavored instrumentals like “Caipirinha” and “Certain Shades of Limelight” that wouldn’t sound out of place on an Esquivel album with their arching choral scatting and brassy arrangements as well as more delicately paced instrumentals like the glistening “We’ll Find A Place.”

The perfect accompaniment to any Sunday afternoon cocktail party with friends, this CD should please longtime Swing Out Sister fans as well as create plenty of new converts.
