Ultimate Club Hits presents some more modern covers of popular songs from the 80s. A very similar project to Water Music's Best of the 80s, UCH is a completely different group of recognizable (and some not so worn out) selections. The style of the covers hovers around dance with a bit of trance, pop, and electronica flavor thrown in here and there.
With most averaging about 3½ minutes, you'll have plenty of tracks to keep you moving. Two of the most fun songs are the instrumental "Ghostbusters Theme" (where dance synths establish the key melodies of the original) and "Party Party" with its group-sing chorus, mixing the flavor of DJ Bobo and Aqua with a touch of Cascada.
"Sweet Child O' Mine" will grab your attention with solid male vocals and a piano-only intro which rolls into some hot trance pop and the guitar line from the original. Although Whitney's "How Will I Know" has been remixed by Jr. Vasquez, this version is another stand-out cut on the project. It is tight and well done with fun dance programming and skillfully delivered female vocals.
Other noteworthy tracks are the covers of Tina Turner's "Simply the Best" and the "Fame" theme. But the most gratifying morsel is "Move Your Body." Go directly to this cut if you are a Capella fan! A soulful female vocalist, instrumental synth transitions, and a dark feel make this heavy dance tune the best and most evocative cut on the record. Definitely a must have for 80s enthusiasts.
