Say it isn't so……

A Junior Vasquez/Vernessa Mitchell collaboration that… (deep breath) I'm not enjoying?!?!? How can this be? This is the duo that brought us such legendary house CLASSICS!? Maybe it's the new-ness of it that is throwing me off…. Ten Tylenol, a quick shot of Tequila, four glasses of wine, and a Xanex later… Still not feeling it….

I wanted to think long and hard about this before I wrote it up. I'm what most consider a "Junior-ite," - One of his many minions who follows his every move as if he were the Messiah. Now I'm the first to say when I don't like something but I really didn't expect to NOT like THIS! Why is that? The problem for me lies in the writing and lyrical content of the song. The words don't seem to flow and don't lend themselves in a sing-a-long style like past hits of the duo. Having said that, Miss Mitchell does a great job singing; no one is doubting her ability. I just wish she would have had better material to work with.

Junior has been quoted recently as saying he's in an "anti-anthem" mood and his remixes have shown that by being more subtle and less "full" sounding. This works in some cases (Simone Denny's Cliché, Martha Wash's Let the Spirit, and Vivian Green's Gotta Go, Gotta Leave) but doesn't seem to work here. The set of remixers included in the promo, Tomer G, Phil Ber, and Matt Piso, never seem to catch that lightning in a bottle either and all sound rather paint-by-numbers if you ask me. Perhaps it's my disappointment with the song itself that is making me cynical of the mixes… who knows.

With more remixes on the way from the likes of DJ Rooster & Sammy Pertala and Richie Santana, perhaps the best is yet to come… I for one will stay hopeful that my two favorite divas haven't released their first dud.
