Verve Remixed 3

The third in a series of timeless albums, Verve Remixed 3 takes the coolness of jazz and stamps on top the intelligence of dance, hip-hop, and synth pop.

Artists like Adam Freeland, RSL, RJD2 and Carl Craig deliver their interpretation of jazz greats like Nina Simone and Billie Holiday. While many of these classics are outstanding in their original form, they shine with a little bit of creativity and inspiration from the digital masters.

A personal favorite on the Album is Anita O' Day's "Sing, Sing, Sing" which was re-worked by RSL. The tune keeps that famous vocal line in its entirety while burying a smooth jazzy (almost house-like) beat underneath. Anita's vocal on this one is nothing short of fascinating.

Another notable gem is The Brazilian Girls' take on Blossom Dearie's "Just One Of Those Things." Stylistically it's a bit hard to pin down, but one will hear elements of techno and drum & bass.

Overall this album is a must hear and is definitely already in my top 5 for the year. This is one of those CDs you leave on the counter next to your car keys and sunglasses to ensure it makes your drivetime playlist.
