Not a bad CD, but not really a Dance CD either. Most of these AM Rock hits from the likes of 1970s stalwarts like Ambrosia ("Biggest Part Of Me"),
George Benson ("This Masquerade"), Seals & Crofts ("Summer Breeze"), and Gary Wright ("Dream Weaver") are just freshened up with a couple of
electronic flourishes, some turntable scratches, and a new drum track which unfortunately in most cases is not necessarily dancefloor-friendly. While the new versions are pleasant enough, the overall vibe of the CD is definitely more on the Easy Listening tip than anything else.
There are a few exceptions however, the Halou Remix of Rod Stewart's "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?" which adds a fuzzy synthesized edge to this Disco classic has already been released as a single with much success on the Billboard Club Chart and the Lotta Nic Mix of Nicolette Larson's "Lotta Love" adds a bass-heavy swinging new beat to the track while keeping the sumptuous feel of the original arrangement.
The Doobie Brothers "Listen To The Music" was already on the funky side of things so the Malibu remix just twists things up enough to add a mildly modern flair. Philip Ster & Ramin Sakurri oddly enough choose to give Devos "Whip It" a Reggae undertone with questionable results, though Cuicas choice to add a subtle Latin flavor to Maria Muldaur's "Midnight At The Oasis" works quite admirably.
The real standout though is definitely the Deepsky's Blizzard In L.A. Remix of "Ventura Highway" by America, which whips the song into a dark storm of breakbeats while still retaining the songs integrity and is surely worthy of a single release. "What Is Hip?" seems a best fit for those who already fans of this light 70s Rock sound and yet are adventurous enough to accept reinterpretations of some of these radio staples.
