Amusing souvenir of the American sitcom "Will & Grace," "Let The Music Out" will most please fans of the show with the three original compositions included; the delicate duet between Megan Mullally (who plays the show's resident alcoholic socialite Karen) and 70s pop icon Carly Simon called "The Right Thing To Do," Eric McCormack (who plays Will) teams up with another 70s giant, Barry Manilow for the gentle piano ballad "Living With Grace," and lastly the uptempo "He's Hot" which features a rapidfire collage of soundclips from the show over a track based around a sample from Madonna's "Holiday."
But also of interest are songs from a number of the guest stars who have made notable appearances on "Will & Grace" over the years; the appropriately rauocus "The Bitch Is Back" from Elton John, a radio edit of the anthemic Hex Hector remix of Jennifer Lopez's "Waiting For Tonight," the evergreen "Gypsies, Tramps, & Thieves" from the legendary Cher, and a revisit to the soundtrack hit "Footloose" by The Bacon Brothers with a lead vocal from Kevin Bacon.
The remainder of "Let The Music Out" offers up a scattershot selection of songs with the genreal feel of the show, ranging from disco classics/drag queen karaoke anthems like Cheryl Lynn's "Got To Be Real" and Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive," teen-pop with "Oops!...I Did It Again" by Britney Spears, current club fare with the edited version of Scumfrog Remix of Dido's recent hit "White Flag," and delicate balladry from Sarah McLachlan with the Marius DeVries Mix of "World On Fire."
Admittedly with its lack of a strong focus, it's difficult to imagine "Let The Music Out" finding too much of an audience outside of the show's core fans, but nonethe less the CD should serve as a pleasant diversion for those fans and perhaps a few others as well.
