Techno 12” Single Reviews for Dancemusic.com – August 30, 2004

Banyan TreeFelipe & Nicolas Bacher Supreme Entertainment (Austria)
The original version is a wicked Latin flavored, tribal techno bomb, with forward moving drums, trippy keys and female vocal samples that will completely annihilate dancefloors near and far. The flip side features a remix by the ever-consistent Samuel L Session, adding his deeper, repetitive take on things. You can’t go wrong with either mix; your only mistake would be not buying this track as soon as possible. *****(5 of 5)

Basic Love John Dahlback Affected (UK)
Another brilliant release from my friends at Affected Music. Back at the helm, after his amazing Reliable EP, John Dahlback further confuses those trying to figure out who the more talented member of his family is, by dropping another astonishing piece of work. “Early Morning” is a sexy, minimal tech house mover, while “Longing for Tonight” combines thick, analog keys with a deep bassline with remarkable results. “Basic Love” is more on the jazzy tip, while “Passion In Here Eyes” rounds out the package in exquisite fashion. Top release. *****(5 of 5)

In The AM EP DJ Vitamin D Beretta Music (US)
Outstanding release from Detroit based, Baretta Music. Enlisting DJ Vitamin D to do that late night, tech house thing he does so well, the original is a smooth, soulful undertaking. The flip feaures a lush, minimal remix by Ryski, but it’s the Kage remix that really does it for me. Deep and funky, grinding and charming, sexy and forward moving (all at the same time), this is an incredible reworking and one that went directly from the mailman’s hand to the top of my playlist. ****(4 of 5)

Mutant Love SongSteve Stoll Fukt (UK)
Techno visionary, Steve Stoll lends his talent to this up and coming UK label. The original mix is a straightforward, minimal techno drum track with slow building percussion and subtle twists and turns. The flip side features a filthy, acid techno remix by Pounding Grooves and Rowland Da Bastard. Hard and funky drums and an eerie, tension-building bassline come together to thump and thump fiercely. Rugged stuff. ****(4 of 5)

Mystery EPCave Primevil Recordings (UK)
Mighty Primevil Recordings hits the half-century mark with this outstanding 2 track EP from Cave. “Paseo” is handed over to Paco Osuna for another of his signature gritty, tribal reworkings, while “Mystery” is the THE track here and an absolute blinder of a track. Driving tribal flavored percussion, jackin’ keys and an amazing Middle Eastern inspired vocal breakdown make this a funky techno masterpiece and a truly MASSIVE record.*****(5 of 5)

The Pirate Audio EPIgnition Technician Primate Endangered Species (UK)
One of the most prolific duos on the techno scene, Ignition Technician is back with three wildly varied tracks. “Skullduggery” is up first with vocal stabs, moving beats and an electro flavored bassline that rises and roars and takes no prisoners. “Robbed From The Rich” is a dark, brooding effort that would be perfect horror movie soundtrack material, whle the real gem here, “Disco Dollars”, is a smooth, funky techno romp complete with old school synths, powerful percussion and a huge heaping of body rocking flavor.***(3 of 5)
