When I got my hands on Lady Gaga's "The Fame" cd, I wondered to myself if the person credited on the song "Starstruck" was "The Space Cowboy." No, not a Steve Miller Band reference, but the producer signed to Southern Fried Records who had the UK club hit with the cover of Prince's "I Would Die 4 U." Digital Rock was a great album and I should have seen the obvious connection between the new romatic/80s vibeo and Lady Gaga's sound. Researching further, Nick Dresti - the man behind Space Cowboy - was also DJ Supreme and Loop da Loop back in the speed garage days, responsible for the insane remix of Giselle Jackson's "Love Commandments" that rocked my dancefloors for many years. But enough history, "Falling Down" is equal parts 80s electro and Eifel 65 flavored electro pop , and that is meant as a compliment. The song is catchy as heck with hooks sung by Chelsea of the Pussycat Dolls-inspired Paradiso Girls. It will be interesting to see if the bloghouse scenesters embrace this current Space Cowboy offering, because it straddles that line between underground electro and undeniable pop. Either way, "Falling Down" is brilliant and definitely worth checking out.
