While dubstep is taking it's time in achieving the attention it truly deserves, that isn't stopping the group Nero from pushing the envelope as far as possible. With their fourth single, "Promises", Nero focuses hardcore on the singing abilities of Alana Watson, the dubstep of the chorus and production of the verses taking a figurative back seat and giving this woman a chance to shine. Unlike "Me & You", "Promises" feels like a fully realized collaboration between pop songwriting and dubstep production, giving a glimmer at the evolution of the sound. And continuing the stream of thrilling videos, "Promises" tells the story of forbidden love in a Big Brother-esque world, a rebellious young woman finding herself torn from the object of her affection at the moment of defying society. Her pain is heartbreaking and is only emphasized by the sonic landscape.
