DJ Ron: You've touched on a little bit what you do as label manager for Definity and now at SAW, you find the records, you find the sounds, you find the people
Hec Romero: Yes.
DJ Ron: How does SAW fit into the Def Mix structure so to say?
Hec Romero: I don't know if it fits in, it's just a whole other aspect of the company, how we evolve and grow. Some people don't even believe that SAW is part of Def Mix, they think it just doesn't go. Because of tradition, people only think that Def Mix as a purist house company and yes, they are of course, and so are we. But Satoshi and myself, we bring this other edge to the company that is helping us continue and uphold the Def Mix that we progress with the times and move on. SAW Recordings is just a little project that we wanted to start and now it's getting really serious now, and we really want SAW Recordings to be a staple in dance music, representing some of the best music out there that we can help to achieve. That's the beauty of having Def Mix with us, they bring this history and knowledge, like grandparents, you just listen and learn. You're proud that you have this core base to back you up and they give you influence, to help you with business decisions. Then Satoshi and I bring this new school mentality so it's well-rounded. I think that's what makes SAW Recordings so special, not many companies have that and we're very grateful for it.
DJ Ron: What does SAW actually stand for, is it an abbreviation?
Hec Romero: No, some people say Satoshi and Weinstein, but it's not that. Basically in electronic music, they have like different wave sounds. A saw wave is one of the electronic sounds part of making the electronic music, one of the various waves that are out there that create sounds. Satoshi came up with the name and we stuck with it because it was cool. Actually that was the hardest part, I tell you the truth, picking a name for the label. We went through so many lists for like three months, and it was just alright, Saw Recordings is different, why not? Let's just do it and people are going to think it's an abbreviation, but no it's not, it's part of electronic music making.
DJ Ron: That's a common theme, Robbie Rivera I was talking to last week had the same problem coming up with Juicy, his girlfriend came up with that. Actually the two of you have a lot in common, he said started when he was thirteen also in Puerto Rico.
Hec Romero: Oh, really.
DJ Ron: Actually I always thought SAW was an abbreviation for Stock, Aitken and Waterman, but I guess this is not the case.
Hec Romero: OK, that was a good one. <laughing>
