Oakie:: No, I've been very fortunate to have worked with many different artists. Apart from the two acts that I've just named, there's no one I could think of at the moment. Yes there is, maybe Red Hot Chili Peppers.
DJ B: Just in general, if you could name a couple of people who have been really influential to you first as a DJ, and then as an artist.
Oakie:: Well, I would say as a DJ, there was an American DJ called Larry Levan, that when I was eighteen I was in New York and I heard him DJ and he really blew me away.
DJ B: How about this guy in Ibiza, Alfredo?
Oakie:: Yes, that was the other one I was going to mention. There's Alfredo that was one of the pioneers of the Ibiza sound, and I would say as an artist it would be, I don't know, U2. I'm inspired by any artists that have been doing it or a long time, recreate themselves like Madonna, and are talented. U2, Madonna, I'd say are probably the first two that come to the top of my list.
DJ B: What's in your player right now? What are you grooving on?
Oakie:: I'm listening to Metallica's new album, which I think its sounds are absolutely amazing on it. And I've been listening to Lil' Kim's album, Timbaland Production, so I've been listening to those.
DJ B: Timbaland is one of my personal favorite heroes, he's got a real deft touch with sound.
Oakie:: Yes, he's got a very good sound. So those two, I like Dre as well, I thing Dre is an excellent producer.
DJ B: What's your favorite piece of gear? What's your favorite toy when you're in the studio?
Oakie:: My favorite toy is a Moog, it's a keyboard.
DJ B: I actually, I don't know if you've met him, he came here from Vanderbilt a couple of years ago to talk to the engineering students?
Oakie:: No, I've never met him.
DJ B: He's an interesting cat and he was selling his theremin kits, he was basically reviving, and it's amazing since I've seen him, how many different bands and how many different kinds of bands have started to incorporate the theremin into their music. I don't know if you've spent much time playing with one, but it's a pretty interesting piece of electronics. Have you every actually had your hands near one?
Oakie: No, not really.
DJ B: They're kind of fun to play with. There's a really good movie about the history of that too if you're into film, about the history of Leon Theremin. It's almost too weird to believe that it's true.
Oakie: I'll check it out.
DJ B: Where do you see dance music and your music going? Your music has obviously changed
from the Balearic sound to the kind of stuff you're doing today. Do you have any predictions for where dance music or music in general is going?
Oakie: Not really. It's certainly becoming more popular globally. From my experience this year, just going to China, Chile, Vietnam, New Zealand, places like that. I think internationally it's becoming more popular, but I do think what we need as a community is we need more acts, we certainly need a lot more acts. It's very single-based this market, the dance market and the I think the only way to take it to the next level is certainly to, like I said earlier, a few more acts.
DJ B: Anything else you want to share with our listeners?
Oakie: Yes, I'm really looking forward to coming to Nashville. I'm going to be there a couple of days, I've never been there so yes, I'm looking forward to having a good time. So I hope the people will
enjoy what I do.
