RS: What lessons from your porn career have you been able to apply to your music career?
Colton: Always clean before you sing... no, no, that's wrong
RS: Really can't douche your throat, so I guess
Colton: Yes, right, clean out your throat. One thing that I can say that was nice in the porn experience was the quick turnaround. You do a video, blink and three weeks later there's the video with you on the box and it's distributed. How fabulous is that? Whereas, I've had a couple of deals which have had no music released from them, so the turnaround was a nice thing. Was there anything that I could take from my porn? The whole porn experience reminded me of the fact that I'm a performer and I felt, in a weird way, that it was an extension of me getting up there and performing. The difference is that I was up there naked. Once you get out of the novelty of that, it didn't feel too dissimilar, you're up there creating something that hopefully will be entertaining. So I gained more of a sense of the power in the performing which was empowering to a degree.
RS: Good answer. What are you plans of distributing Naked Fame, are you going to work at the film festivals or what are the plans with that?
Colton: Yes, we just started working the film festival circuit. We just did Miami and we're getting ready to do New York, Connecticut, Kentucky and Dallas. We're kind of all over the place, but I know that Hard Sell is looking at several distribution offers that were coming in just prior to the Miami film festival that have increased since the festival a couple of weeks ago. The last I heard of it is that they're anticipating theatrical distribution in the mid to later part of August, which is when we're looking also to drop the EP.
RS: When you performed at Britney's club in the movie, she wasn't there that night was she?
Colton: No, but when I was there during the day, there's a scene of me walking up on that little catwalk trying to figure out OK, what the fuck am I supposed to do on this. Then I was looking down, her three managers were sitting at a booth, and so I had made some sort of reference to thank Britney's people. They were actually there and she wasn't, no. I think I smelled her though
RS: OK, winners of Miss America pageants as well as Playboy Playmates often complain that they don't get taken seriously as performers, be it singers or actors. Do you think your porn career has affected you in the same way?
Colton: I think that there's a level of skepticism when anybody comes out after they've shot their lives for the camera and tries to do something else. I'm OK with that because music is not an afterthought for me so I know that curiosity kills the cat and it's going to be curious enough for them to want to come out and check it out. All I need for them to do is come out and they'll see that when I get up there and do my thing that I'm for real, and perhaps they'll readjust their perceptions of me and of people who have done adult films. It's a silly little game we play in our society that , it's OK to talk about it, it's OK to almost go there but don't go all the way, because God knows if you do, you're going to be left there. Well I don't feel that way. So, they can come with skepticism but they'll see that I'm really saying that I really sing, this is really what I do and what I have done all my live. In that regard, I don't know if they'll take me more seriously, I think maybe they'll receive me as a singer/songwriter and that's all that I really care about is for them to receive it in the way that it's being presented. I read something that a reviewer wrote about laughing when someone who does porn all off a sudden wants to be taken seriously. I take issue with that because my expectation is not to say hey, you better take this seriously, but I want them to receive it for what it is and how it hits them. If they feel the music and they believe, then that's all it is. It's not me trying to say, porn didn't do well with me because now people aren't taking me seriously anymore. It's really about me showing another part of myself, and I think the reality is that we are all multifaceted people. So perhaps when they come out and see me perform, it'll kind of represent that to them, that besides being able to fuck, which everyone does, let's see what else can he do.
RS: In that regard, how much do you workout to maintain that body of yours?
Colton: I'm on like a four day a week on a maintenance schedule which is still a lot of work. Four days a week for two hours each day.
RS: Anything you want to say to all the dance music people out there?
Colton: Thanks for the support and for receiving this first single so well, and look for more to come.
