RS: There are so many fly-by-nights that last for six weeks because they're the hot DJ for the moment and they did one remix, but you guys have been around so long and have produced so much great work, what do you attribute your longevity to?
Pete: Listening, I think. You’ve got to listen to what's happening and you’ve got to listen to what you think your direction should be with a particular song if you're remixing. You’ve got to listen to what people say, but not too much, because you’ve got to listen to what you believe in.

Andy: I think one of things is if you DJ, you kind of have a sound that is you, You can always tell a Dave Morales or Frankie Knuckles record can’t you. But I suppose because we don’t DJ and we don’t have to sort of fit into one particular sound, we’ve kind of evolved and we’re not afraid of changing the sound if we have to, to fit whatever the record is. We’ve probably done records that maybe other people like Dave Morales wouldn't do, and we’ve done some quite poppy stuff as well as some quite hard and underground stuff. So I think that we can do a broad range of styles and not just one kind of sound. We can sort of also anticipate whatever the A&R man wants.

RS: I hear that from a lot of remixers, how you're doing it for the A&R guy. Have you ever had an artist come back to you and say oh my God, I love what you did with my song?
Andy: We’ve had that quite a lot. Anastacia likes what we’ve done and we’ve done four records for her. The same with Gloria, we used to get Emilio phoning us up from Miami sort of telling us how he wanted bits to be on the records and how he wanted us to sort of do different things for Gloria which was quite nice. I remember once watching Top Of The Pops in England and they were using our mix as the A side, so all of the Miami Sound Machine was playing our song. It was kind of weird that they were playing all the parts that we’ve done, yet was quite cool to see that.

RS: I’ve spoken to other UK remixers like Paul Masterson, who mentioned how being on Top Of The Pops was just a dream come true. Have you had your Top Of The Pops moment?
Andy: Actually strangely enough we've never been on Top Of The Pops as Soda Club or Love to Infinity, it’s one of our little gripes. We’ve had the hits as Soda Club and it’s been kind of weird. “Take My Breath Away” came out the same week as DJ Sammy’s “Heaven” and the producer of Top Of The Pops said I don’t want two trance songs, so I’m going to go with DJ Sammy. Then when “Heaven Is A Place On Earth” from Soda Club came out, it was exactly the same week again as DJ Sammy’s “Boys Of Summer” and exactly the same thing happened, the producer said I’m going with DJ Sammy and not Soda Club. So the singer on those two records was absolutely gutted, she couldn’t get on Top Of The Pops even though she got a top twenty record. But that’s the way it is in England.
