"What the World Needs Now" is the latest from Joyce Sims, taken from the inspirational album A New Beginning. With the help of Junior Vasquez and Friscia & Lamboy, Sims takes the Burt Bacharach classic from the church to the dancefloor.
The Joyce Sims Mix is the most subdued version in the package. A minimally lush production and an occasional saxophone jab create a mix that keeps it short and simple. The Junior Vasquez Mix features a killer intro, however once the main vocal hits, Joyce takes a backseat to the driving synths and electronic effects. The Junior Vasquez Mix can also be found on Sims' full length album, along with three other Junior Vasquez productions including the classic "All and All."
Friscia & Lamboy's Club Mix combines percussive rhythms and tech-y swirls with Sims' beautiful vocals, however, the end product is a rather generic production that just never quite connects. It's such a shame to hear Sims' lovely vocals become lost in the tribal beats, eliminating much of the heart of the track. On the other hand, where the Friscia & Lamboy Club Mix fails, the second offering from the remixing duo excels. By replacing the hard drums with a far more suitable piano, the Friscia & Lamboy Pop Club Mix and Joyce Sims soar. It's quite a wonderful piece of work that evokes the emotion and soul of this beautifully written track. The Pop Club Mix is guaranteed to fill your heart and dancefloor with love.
