A new duo is making a name for themselves on the club scene. Jupiter Rising are a male/female twosome who have been gathering attention for the first track from their debut CD. "Go" is already quite popular on XM radio and has been used in a variety of commercials for Chevrolet, Disney, Fox Sports, and Major League Baseball. It's also been included on the soundtrack to the new Disney Channel flick "Jump In!" Now come the mixes by Dave Aude & Friscia and Lamboy (These guys have been on everyone's songs lately!). The results are a mixed bag, with one set of mixes towering over the other.
The first mixes are brought to us by Dave Aude. This man has been very busy lately with his work being featured on songs by just about everyone who's had a song on the dance charts in recent months. In its original version, the song has a rock/reggae feel to it, a la No Doubt or 311. His Deep Space Club Mix manages to give the song a fun and silly vibe while being bouncy enough to get the crowd moving on the dancefloor. Filled with lots of outer space effects and filters and synths galore, the mix never loses momentum and the sing-along "la-las" in the chorus only add to its pop crossover feel. The vocals of 80.Bug (one of the more interesting names I've seen in recent times) remind me a bit of Pink and her partner Spencer Nezey is the perfect foil for her sassy sound. This mix also comes in a radio edit and a shorter mixshow version.
The mixes by Friscia & Lamboy are not quite as good. Their Tribal Vox Mix has plenty of drums, and they also try to keep a spaced-out feel, but somehow this remix strips the song of its cuteness. It tends to feel a bit monotonous and drawn out. The Electro Mix that they provide doubles up on the sound effects and the blips and bleeps, but somehow it also misses the mark. The vocal manipulations don't work for this version. The sunny poppiness of this song is its key and Friscia & Lamboy completely eliminate this- and in doing so, the song loses its appeal. Too hard and too much.
Dave Aude does fine work again on this debut single by Jupiter Rising, while Friscia & Lamboy miss the mark. Fun is the key here and this duo seems to enjoy keeping our feet tapping. Let's hope the next single continues to build on the buzz already spreading about these two. First Disney, then the world!
